The Spike Gallery, at 547 West 20th Street, is presenting “Happy Art for a Sad World,” an exhibition curated by Hélianthe Bourdeaux-Maurin for the gallery. Included with the “Happy Art” is work by several SVA artists: Soyeon Cho (MFA 2004 Fine Arts), Wonjung Choi (MFA 2004 Fine Arts), Pamela Hadfield (MFA 2004 Fine Arts), Kyung Jeon (second-year student, MFA Fine Arts) and Reuben Negron (MFA 2004 Illustration as Visual Essay). The exhibition will be on display through Saturday, August 7.
More SVA artists are also participating in a fête for the “Doubles” issue of Cabinet, a quarterly magazine of art and culture; “Doubles” was produced in conjunction with the Russian Kabinet. Taking place at the Pierogi Gallery, 177 North 9th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Thursday, August 5, 7 – 10pm, the party will celebrate the latest Cabinet, which features contributions by Yevgeniy Fiks (MFA 1999 Computer Art), Charles Greene (BFA 1987 Media Arts), Rachel Gugelberger (Associate Director, Visual Arts Gallery), Shelley Jackson (MFA 1997 Illustration as Visual Essay), Christopher Turner (BFA 1995 Advertising) and Penelope Umbrico (faculty, BFA Photography; MFA 1989 Fine Arts).
