Two SVA alumni have received praise for their CD packaging design work. Jeff Gilligan (BFA 1998 Graphic Design) was commended by the Creativity 33 Annual for his work on the Life Force Radio CD by hip-hop artist Afu-Ra. Gilligan is Senior Graphic Designer at KOCH Entertainment, Afu-Ra’s label. Creativity’s Annual is an international showcase for outstanding advertising and graphic design and is currently accepting entries for its next edition. Julian Alexander (BFA 1998 Graphic Design) won a Grammy in the category of Best Box Set or Special Limited Edition Package for Miles Davis’ The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions. Alexander has also worked with 50 Cent and Jennifer Lopez.
Another alum is in the running for an award: Carlos Saldanha (MFA 1993 Computer Art) is a nominee for an Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Short Subject for Gone Nutty, a CG short starring the Scrat character from Blue Sky Studios’ 2002 feature film Ice Age. The winner will be announced during the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 29.
