Artists and educators will come together to discuss “The Educated Artist” at the 17th Annual National Conference on Liberal Arts and the Education of Artists at the legendary Algonquin Hotel, October 22 – 24. The keynote address for the conference will be presented by SVA President David Rhodes.
What does “the educated artist” mean? How should artists be educated? What roles do art institutions play in creating consensus about art and art instruction? The conference will examine these questions, as well as the theories and practices that underlie an education in the arts, from the classroom critique and the student portfolio to the politics and cultural values that shape curriculum. For all inquiries regarding the conference, contact Dr. Maryhelen Hendricks, conference director and co-chair of the College’s Humanities and Sciences Department, at 212.592.2625.
