New Yorkers will be able to immerse themselves in the childhood memories conjured by children’s book illustrations in Once Upon a Time: The Picture Book Art of Creative Editions. Though the artists included in the exhibition are some of the best-known names in international illustration, Once Upon a Time comes directly from the heartland of America: Creative Editions of Mankato, Minnesota. Museum visitors will see a lively showcase of original drawings, paintings, pastels and prints by several internationally acclaimed artists, including: Etienne Delessert (Dance!, The Seven Dwarfs), Monique Felix (The Numbers, The Velveteen Rabbit), Roberto Innocenti (Cinderella, A Christmas Carol), Gary Kelley (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Boshblobberbosh) and Guy Billout (Journey). Once Upon a Time, September 2 – October 4, Reception: September 8, 6 – 8pm, Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23 Street.
