- In celebration of the prestigious photography journal Aperture‘s 50th anniversary, SVA was asked to be one of 50 participating venues exhibiting work in Photography Past/Forward: Aperture at 50. Work by photography heavyweights like Lee Miller, Franco Zecchin, Philip Jones Griffiths, Larry Towell, and Chris Steele-Perkins will be displayed in the lobby of 214 East 21 Street during the citywide anniversary celebration, October 21 – November 3. Other venues include Ellis Island, The New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Studio Museum of Harlem.

- Matters of the Mind: The Archive as Memory Bank, Art History Panel; October 24, 8pm; SVA Amphitheater, 209 East 23 Street, 3rd Floor. Provocative discussion topics include: What is “collective memory” and how is it defined? How do collections of artifacts generate dreams? How is memory constructed and re-constructed? How are objects transformed into history? This panel is being held in conjunction with SVA’s 16th Annual National Conference on Liberal Arts and the Education of Artists, whose theme this year is Art Remembers. It will take place at the Algonquin Hotel, October 23 – 25. Art Historian and critic Barbara Maria Stafford will be the keynote speaker at the conference
