Trunk Show

August 29, 2002

On September 6, artist and SVA alumnus Toland Grinnell (BFA Fine Arts 1994) will display 35 of his popular trunk pieces in the exhibition called A Mobile Home & Other Necessities at the legendary Mary Boone Gallery. Calling himself a “cross between Walt Disney and Karl Lagerfield,” Grinnell continues to gain momentum in the press and with the public for his trunk sculptures which represent the excessive side of society. From handmade leather trunks detailed in gold to accoutrements like champagne glasses and wine racks, Grinnell attempts to blur the distinction between the worlds of art, fashion, and marketing. His work will be on view at the Mary Boone Gallery (745 Fifth Avenue) through October 19.
