Scholarships Awarded and Established

The Alumni Society of School of Visual Arts is pleased to announce two new memorial scholarships established by SVA Alumni for the benefit of current SVA students. Both awards will be presented annually beginning in January 2003.


Michael Simmonds (BFA 2000 Film & Video) has generously established The William C. Arkell Memorial Scholarship Award in commemoration of his grandfather. His initial gift of $25,000 will result in an annual award of $5,000 in support of senior thesis projects in the Film, Video and Animation Department. Applications will be accepted from film students working on a narrative film of any length.


Anthony Porpora (1956 Advertising), close friend and executor of the estate of Robert Blumenthal, has established the Robert I. Blumenthal Memorial Scholarship Award for the benefit of senior thesis projects in the Advertising & Graphic Design Department. The initial $5,000 gift will be distributed as an annual award of $1,000 for thesis projects by Graphic Design majors.
