Busby Berkeley Dreams

June 21, 2002

Chris Prynoski (Film, Video and Animation 1994) created the opening sequence
for the recent MTV Movie Awards. It’s the second year in a row MTV commissioned Prynoski and his company, Titmouse Inc., to produce the show’s opening. This year’s sequence was inspired by the style of Busby Berkeley musicals from the 1930s. Prynoski and his creative team incorporated live-action footage from the nominee sequences with design elements that mimicked movie posters of Berkeley’s era. They then hand-painted the final live-action freeze frame to create a whimsical and arresting graphic quality. For further information, visit the Animation World Network Web site.
