Now on view at the Westside Gallery (141 West 21 Street) is Installations, an exhibition of work from three MFA fine arts students. From Jihyun Park, the viewer will experience large-scale sculptural articulations of verbal puns; On (Megumi) Akiyoshi offers a “lighting jacket” to viewers in order to enter her dark and dizzying room covered in brightly painted floral patterns; and Chong Jenny Son adds a sense of humor to her installation by taking objects traditionally associated with men and manual labor, like tools, and covers them in tightly knitted jackets. Installations will be on view through February 23 with a reception for the artists January 23 from 5 to 7pm.
The Eastside Gallery (214 East 21 Street) is now showing Graphic Design, an exhibition featuring the work of several students (and recent graduates) from the BFA graphic design program. Viewers will peer into experiments with typographic design in the form of books and prints; a collaboration of collage; and work fusing art created on the computer and art created “by hand.” Everyone is encouraged to visit the Eastside Gallery for the Graphic Design exhibition (up through February 20), and attend the reception for the artists on January 24 from 5 to 7pm.
